The official rescue site of the Shar Pei Club of Great Britain
|
Sadly we have seen many dogs come into rescue this year. Most have had happy endings. Here are some we are proud to share. If you have a Shar Pei through Shar Pei Rescue, why not contact us with an update on your Shar Pei, we'd love to hear from you. Our photo gallery carries pictures of all the Shar Pei that have been rescued and rehomed through this service.
Happy endings:
Doreen here, thought I would send you some pics of Tiffany who you rescued with her brother Alfie. She is an absolute sweetheart and we just love her to bits. She walks off the lead in the park and has her own special dog friends that she plays with. Sadly we lost our boy with Shar Pei fever, we miss him so much but Tiffany keeps us busy. I thought I would just get in touch to thank you and Jason everything you done for Tiffany our little Princess. I have been keeping an eye on the rescue site just incase a friend for Tiffany comes on. Doreen and Neil
Just to let you know that I have trained my new permanent pack members reasonably well. Suzy now realises that the gentle nudge I give her means she has to stop working and must take me for my afternoon walk. When that fails, I find sitting on her audio foot pedal tends to do the trick. Keith, on the other hand, occasionally thinks he is the alpha male but all I have to do is have a mad 5 minute dart around my new ‘kennel’ and he tends to give up looking mean and masterful – I do so hate being ignored. Why he finds the ceiling more interesting than me I’ll never know. Just to keep him happy, I have been known to let him play with my rope toy – these humans are so easy to please; simple souls really.
They’ve also come along a treat (if you pardon the pun) in the gourmet department. Decent dry food, gluten free pasta, boiled boneless chicken breasts, peas, broccoli and the occasional boiled egg – Gordon Ramsay eat your heart out. Naturally, I show my appreciation by spraying as much of it as far up the kitchen wall as I possibly can, together with the obligatory water puddles artistically scattered from my drinking bowl via the kitchen floor, hallway and into the lounge.
In true Shar Pei style, I show all my appreciation by snoozing as much as I can and keeping them safe via my loud, dulcet tones when the door goes. Well, duty calls and I must go and sit on their feet to keep these humans on their toes. Once again, thank you for finding me a nice, safe home with kind and caring companions. Kia
Hi
We’d spoken to Mick Jackson on the phone who told us Theo had been found in a field and despite sending out details of him in the local area no one had called about him, so he was put up for rehoming.
We had no idea about his past however Mick had had him for a few days and discovered he was good with other animals, we didn’t even know if he would like the kids, but we had to give him a chance, and we’re so glad we did. He is an absolute dream of a dog, fantastic with the kids and has filled a large gap. I have had a Shar Pei dog in the past who suffered extreme separation anxiety and was aggressive however Theo has never shown any aggression (well he growls and wags his tail at the same time so it sort of gives it away, that he’s not vicious! But he likes to think he is).
We’ve since found out that Theo has a severe food allergy which causes him to scratch and bite his fur out however with his diet of chicken, rice, apples and carrots and antibiotics he’s looking very well, as it did cause concern for a few months. He also has to have weekly baths which he does not agree with but secretly we think he enjoys!
We live close to the beach and Theo loves it when you kick the sand and he then digs underneath your feet – we’re not sure if he’s trying to bury us, he’s very good off the lead and comes back – eventually - when we shout him it depends what mood he’s in and whether he’s busy. As we got on so well with Theo we decided to buy a shar pei puppy and at first we thought we’d made a mistake as Theo hated him, however now Theo and Teddy get on like a house on fire and Theo likes to boss him around, and he is pictured here with his wee brother. Until we bought Teddy, Theo never ate a treat however now that the puppy gets them he has to have his share. We’d like to say a big thank you to Mick & Denise Jackson for their help in getting Theo into our family. Regards John Gibson
I have enclosed a picture of Rufie as we call him. We are from hinckley in leicestershire and travelled 100 miles each way to meet Rufus. At the time there were no pictures of him but we said we would go when Paul told us his story. We thought even if he isn't the dog for us I couldn't let him be put to sleep because his owner couldn't be bothered. He is an absolute dream of a dog, fantastic with the kids and has filled a large gap as I have had Shar Pei dogs in the past and when I had my son wanted to wait until he was old enough to understand how to look after a dog. I cannot thank Paul enough, as no matter what or when I need to ask him anything he never minds, he is brilliant. I have rescued before and not from this Club - they didn't help you at all. This is the Club that cares for its animals and I have told my friend that have had Shar Pei before only to deal with Paul. Lisa

I thought I’d send you some photos and let you know how the little pickles are getting on.
We took them to the vets for their first injections and they were weighed at Emma 6.9 kg and Bella at 7.65 kg. They are due for another shot in 2 weeks and 2 weeks after that they’ll be allowed out for walks.
They are into everything and love to explore the world with their mouths and tend to chew on down on just about everything. So we have a nice big hole in on of the arm chairs now.
More later.... Richard
Hi Paul
![]()
Attached are some photos of Tao - hope
you like them, as you can see he is getting bigger already. Think he might
take over the house - maybe we should have called him
Digby.
He had his 1st injection on Monday and
never batted an eyelid - the vet checked him over and said he is healthy
although she said that he had a bit of a pigeon chest. Everybody in the
vets liked him anyway - not sure whether I am just noticing Shar Pei more
but I have seen about 4 since we got him.
He has got his 2nd injection in 2
weeks and his microchip is being done - then only 10 days and we can get him
out for his 1st walk.
Anyway, we will keep you up to date
with his progress.
Craig & Becky

I’d like to introduce you to my family. My husband Mark and I live with our 2-week-old son Max and our Shar-Pei’s Neo and Libby.
Max and Libby are the newest members of our family. Both bring us so much joy in their own special ways.
Libby is a five-year-old bitch who joined us on the 9th July, just a few days before our son arrived. Unfortunately for Libby, her owner was unable to take care of her anymore. We had suffered a loss earlier this year when one of our Shar-Pei’s, Sabre, died at the ripe old age of 10 years. It was a very sad time for us all and we still miss him greatly. Our other Shar-Pei, Neo, also suffered from the loss of his soul mate. He became very quiet and reserved, lost weight and was generally unhappy. We knew we needed to fill the void, but not replace Sabre. He is after all irreplaceable.
After contacting Paul Saxton at Shar-Pei rescue he helped us find the right dog to fit into our family. We wanted to give a rescue dog a new start in our home and that’s where Libby fits in.
She is a wonderful dog, very friendly and laid back, great with children and a loving family member. Since Max has come into our lives Libby has taken it upon herself to become his nanny! (See picture) She has also given Neo a new lease of life. He now plays again and has started to regain the weight he lost. Libby settled in with us so well, we feel she has always been apart of the family.
Thanks to Paul we were able to give a new home to Libby. We all look forward to many happy years ahead with her.
Michelle, Mark, Max, Libby, Neo
I thought you might like these pictures of Rio for your rehomed gallery."
